50,000 people to attend PM's thank you dinnerBy Aftar Singh KUALA LUMPUR: A massive 50,000-person dinner will be hosted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamed at the National Stadium at Bukit Jalil tomorrow to celebrate the success of the 16th Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur. "The Prime Minister's dinner is a token of appreciation to all the people who were involved in the KL '98 Games," Sports Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said at his office yesterday. The Cabinet has approved RM2 million for the dinner. "We are hosting the dinner especially for the 16,575 volunteers who played an important part in running the Games. And we want all of them to come for the dinner," said Muhyiddin. "The volunteers will also receive certificates. Volunteers can use their accreditation cards to enter the main stadium which will be open to the volunteers by 5pm," he said. The others invited for the dinner are Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), all sports associations, Sukom officials, the police, army, and all those who were involved directly in the Games. "Those invited can drive to Bukit Jalil or take the Star LRT. However, the LRT will stop only at the Bandar Tasik Selatan as the Bukit Jalil station is closed. "However, we will provide 50 feeder buses to ferry them to the stadium. We will charge RM1 per person," said Muhyiddin. At the dinner, Dr Mahathir will also hand out incentives to the various Games medal winners.
